Twenty Grand Win A Major Boost For Sale

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The 2010 thetote.com.au Stakes was won by the late blooming Weasel Clause gelding Twenty Grand.  The $80,000 1200m listed race is the first leg of the Tasmanian WFA Triple Crown, with the listed 1400m Thomas Lyons Stakes and the listed 1600m George Adams Plate to follow.

Twenty Grand’s win was an outstanding effort as the galloper received interference at the start and was forced to settle last in the field. However leading Tasmanian rider Brendon McCoull, navigated a path through the field and eventually grabbed one of the pace-makers, handy Victorian galloper Chairmanoftheboard, right on the line Trainer Gary White explained post race that the horse was lucky to be racing as his entire career has been littered with setback after setback.

“The horse has suffered from a range of major issues including a rare bone disease, bowed tendons, bone chips and, at one stage, had even managed to impale himself on a stake,” White said. Twenty Grand is out of the El Moxie mare Private Nip, who is a listed winner in her own right as victor of the Tasmanian One Thousand Guineas.
Private Nip also ran second in the listed Tasmanian Oaks and was placed at listed level as a 2yo.  Private Nip is also the dam of the well performed Delago Brom filly Paristan, who won a $50,000 3yo feature during the 2008 Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
The 2010 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale features a half brother to Twenty Grand by the well bred Danehill Stallion Strada.  Tony Williams from Magic Millions considers the Strada Colt to be one of the leading types in this year’s sale.  After the latest success of Twenty Grand, and the interest already shown in Strada, there is little doubt Lot 46 will be one of the most “sought after” lots in the 2010 catalogue.

In addition, Lot 132 (Savoire Vivre – Dash Of Scotch) is a half sister to Private Nip.  Dash Of Scotch has been a quality producer at stud, having produced four other winners, including the listed Hobart Guineas’ winner Strait Dash.
