July was a relatively quiet month in Tasmania, with only four race meetings conducted. However Tasmanian-bred and/or Tasmanian Sale graduates still recorded some extremely encouraging results. Notably amongst these was the impressive graduation to Open Class by King Of Gondor, a bargain buy ($ 5,500) for trainer John Blacker at the 2007 sale.
In total, 38 races were conducted in July, with 23 of these winners being Tasmanian Bred. In addition, seven were graduates of the Tasmania Sale.
Tasmania is often much underrated for producing quality 2yos, however July saw the emergence of several above average 2yos. Of the three 2yo races conducted during July, all were won by Tasmanian bred gallopers – being Cervelo, Shinto and Secuma. Shinto and Secuma are both graduates of the Tasmanian Sale. The connections of all of these 2yos have indicated that these horses will now be aimed at the new season’s 3yo feature races.
