Following the success of its recent Select Thoroughbred Yearling Sale, Tasbreeders, the state’s peak body representing thoroughbred breeders, will hold a Mixed Sale at Inveresk Showgrounds in Launceston on Saturday 27 March.
The inaugural sale, which is to be hosted in conjunction with Magic Millions, includes weanlings, yearlings, broodmares (dry and in foal), unbroken stock and tried horses.
Tasbreeders’ Executive Officer, Mr Brett Williams, said a number of weanlings and yearlings would be on offer by sires such as Telesto, Tough Speed, Savoire Vivre, Mount White, Benicio, Partners Choice, El Maggiore, Danzero, Written Tycoon, Ad Valorem and Beckett.
“The catalogue also includes broodmares for sale by Encosta De Lago, Royal Academy, Flying Spur and Danzero, among others,” he said.
Mr Williams said he expected strong interest from buyers, partly due to a range of incentives being offered by Magic Millions.
“Magic Millions is offering the purchasers of the 10 highest priced lots a return trip to the Gold Coast plus three night’s accommodation to attend the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale which is held from late May into early June,” he said.
“Yearlings sold through this sale can also qualify for the annual 2yo and 3yo race series.”
Mr Williams said that Magic Millions had provided positive feedback on the quality of the catalogue.
“We are expecting buyers to be suitably impressed considering it is a mixed sale, because there are a number of high quality lots in the catalogue, which have been included for a number of reasons,” he said.
“While some yearlings missed out on the main select sale, which was held last month, selections were done in October, and many of these horses have now improved significantly since that time.
“There are also a number of yearlings that should have been in the main sale, but were withdrawn because they incurred minor injuries or because entries were received after the deadline.”
Mr Williams said that the range of well-bred broodmares on offer were an ideal investment for people just starting out in thoroughbred breeding or were looking to increase their band of broodmares.
