Dream Pedlar Kicks off a Great Weekend for Tasmanian Yearling Sale Graduates

Monday, October 03, 2011

After three Listed stakes victories, including last year's Bendigo Cup, the pride of the Apple Isle, Dream Pedlar, earned his first group victory by outplugging five opponents in Friday's Group 3 Tatts JRA Cup.

In a race decimated by scratchings, Dream Pedlar went postward as the top-weight. The 7yo gelding takes some riding and Craig Newitt was hard at work 800 metres from home. He kept on one batting and gradually wore down Carnero (Carnegie) to win by two lengths with favoured Domesky (Domesday) a short-half-head back in third.

It took Dream Pedlar's earnings to over $670,000 with a record of 9 wins, 8 seconds and 6 thirds from 44 starts. The homebred is by the Tasmanian stalwart West Quest (CAN)(Gone West) who is currently covering his 15th book of mares at Grenville Stud at a fee of $4,400.

Dream Pedlar is the seventh foal for the 1994 Tasmanian 1000 guineas (LR) heroine Unamah (Top Avenger) who has a 2yo colt by Ladoni (GB) and a yearling brother to the JRA Cup winner.

Unamah was bred back to the Sadler's Wells stallion Savoire Vivre last season.
