April was another outstanding month for Tasmanian-bred horses performing locally, interstate and internationally. While the performances of Life To The Full, Conquering, and Forbidden Quest have been well documented, Tasmanian-bred horses have also achieving success on Victorian provincial tracks and in Asia. In addition, Tasmanian-bred horses have continued to dominate in their home state.
This included a clean sweep of the month’s feature races starting with Two Bob winning the $25,000 Open Sprint at the inaugural night meeting, Socks’ sensational win in the $40,000 2yo Classic, Gee Gees Truce beating a quality field of 3yos in the $20,000 3yo Sprint and Akamai winning a high quality $20,000 mares’ race.
In total, 55 races were conducted in Tasmania during April, with 34 of the winners being Tasmania-bred. Impressively, 19 of these winners were graduates of the annual sale including the feature race winners in Socks, Two Bob and Akamai. In addition, highly promising gallopers such as Tough Future, Secdolrue and Tula were all offered for sale through the Tasmanian ring.
